Happenings

Whatever you are into—farmers markets, museums, concerts, dance performances—you’re likely to find something special in southern Vermont. Check out The Maple Bear for the latest events.

Swim & Boat

The Deerfield Valley is adjacent to two of the largest lakes in Vermont, the 8-mile long Harriman Reservoir (a.k.a. Lake Whitingham) with boat rentals and the beautiful but remote Somerset Researvoir are within 7 miles of the house. There are also several lakes and swimming spots that are so beautiful, we do not post them on our website 🙂

Music & Theater

There are many options for music, theater and dance including the Marlboro Music Festival, Bang on the Can summer music festival the Weston Theater, the Dorset Theater Festival, and a little further afield, the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Also, check out local live music at The Maple Bear.

Weddings/Events

Consider the adjacent Farm Road Estate for a Vermont wedding. Other wedding venues include the Hermitage Inn, and the White House Inn among other places.

Just Enjoy VT!

Our property has many delightful little spots to enjoy a quiet Vermont summer day: sit in a bench overlooking the river, do yoga in the gazebo or just sit atop our hill and admire the view.

Winter

Skiing/Boarding

The Deerfield Valley is one of the best places to ski on the East Coast, with Mount Snow just a few miles. It has lots of different types of terrain and one of the best snowboard parks around. If you are a member of the Hermitage Club, skiing and snowboarding is only 5 miles away. For old-school cross country and telemarking you might consider Prospect Mountain, which is only 20 miles away. In addition, Dover is investing in lots of free backcountry terrain: there is skiing on Horace Hill and the Dover Town Forest, and soon there will be lots of terrain adjacent to Mt. Snow.

Ice Skating/Fishing

Farm Road Estate runs an ice skating rink the in wintertime that’s only a few hundred feet away. In addition, Retreat Meadows offers acres of skating and is a popular ice fishing location a half hour away. Even further afield (about 100 miles) the Lake Morey Resort offers a 4.3 mile ice skating loop in the winter that most agree is worth the trip.

Food & Drink

Just as in the summer, we are located adjacent to Farm Road Estate, which has the excellent Sawmill Bar and Table. The 1846 Tavern is just across the street. It’s a short walk to Snow Republic Brewery, we’re only about a mile from the American Flatbread Restaurant in West Dover, and for a nice meal further afield you might consider Solo Farm and Table.

The winter is when Dover is at its busiest, so there are always lots of things to do. Check out The Maple Bear for the latest events. Or just stay at Bogle House and try out our sledding hill—it’s also a great snowshoeing destination!
